We personally use a Yamaha WaveRunner PWC's ,these are the big 3 seaters, with a 70 litre petrol tank. Yamaha is the industry's innovation leader with being a specialist of marine engines. This therefore goes with out saying, as to which engines you would want to entrust your life with when it comes to tackling the mighty ocean.
When looking for a suitable water vehicle, three most important factors need to be taken into consideration - stability, reliability and fuel consumption. Listed below is an excellent example of a complete set up on the jetskifishing PWC.

This was chosen because of my past experience of hundreds of accumulated hours on the water. Also for the renowned Yamaha reliability and service agents throughout the country should there be a fault. The huge 70 litre fuel tank is a bonus, as I get over four engine hours riding on a good day. Also with the latest NanoXcel hull, it is extremely stable when drift fishing or in rough weather. I looked at options for fishing accessories for personal water crafts and found nothing practical available. This prompted me to develop the "Ultimate Rod Holder" kit, this is practical and could allow other people interested, to enjoy this style of PWC fishing.
Is a 2011 Yamaha WaveRunner, 1812cc, stock standard 3 seater SHO Cruiser model, this comes with plenty of storage up front and also under the back seat. After previously riding an FX HO and discussions with the team at Yamaha NZ, I decided to obtain the necessary fuel statistics with the supercharged 1.8 engine for some long range adventures. The advantage with the WaveRunner include the no wake mode and cruise control. The SHO has amazing performance yet can be very fuel efficient when not on open throttle! With great torque an excess of 210 plus horsepower to accomplish my out wide trips with plenty of excitement. On a WaveRunner I can go ahead with trips that would be questioned in a smaller boat in most weather windows... Power is instant!
DMW single axle multi roller with guide poles and the optional retractable jockey wheel.
Raymarine A50D, this was chosen because of its clarity, ease of use and the fact that it is semi water protected. The transducer is fitted in-hull of the ski and display on the dash with a custom stainless bracket mounted at the factory drinks holder, so no additional screws have been fitted. It also has a large viewable display etc so one can quickly check fuel usage and speed. I will be installing another battery, to be fitted near the original. This so the fish finder has a dedicated battery to ensure the Yamaha will start and not run the main battery flat.
From measuring the fall away from the back of the ski to where I intended to sit while fishing, this is a product available online and also at the Jetskifishing store, located at Half Moon Bay, Auckland. With two angled rod holders and three extra straight up and down, being used for a net or gaf. The "Ultimate Rod Holder" and fittings where designed so they can be easily removed within 1 minute, for general PWC fun. You will have no fish smell associated with your PWC, as the Igloo 68 litre marine white chilly bin is removable for washing etc. Another great accessory is the Ultimate Bait Tray, a quality fabricated stainless tray to hold a large tub of Gulp Alive soft baits and any light tackle at your closest convenience while fishing.
For those large catches we recommend the Ultimate Catch Bag, this keeps the fish in cool condition in the insulated catch bag, specifically designed for Jetskifishing. Complete with straps to attach to harness points on your ski, means your fish can be transported back to base in the best condition.
I use Daiwa rods & reels with soft plastic baits, but when targeting King fish or large Snapper I have a Daiwa Monster Mesh with the Saltist 30T reel. I also use Berkley accessories for tackle, along with the Gulp soft bait range . Top Catch, Half Moon Bay, where I am now based with the Jetskifishing store, supply the terminal tackle and the additional tackle is stored under the rear seat. I have just completed the latest innovative Jetskifishing accessory the Ultimate Reel cover, designed to reduce salt spray while traveling on my fishing adventures.
Also under the seat is a standard Fire extinguisher tube, long with a flares for safety. I also use a Mcmurdo Personal Location Beacon which is also attached to my vest for absolute emergency when needed life saving assistance (available on our website) There is also an Eveready Dolphin lantern stored in the forward hatch with a Raymarine Ray101 VHF attached to my vest. The WaveRunner is fitted out with LED navigation lights for riding to and from adventures in low light.

The navigation lights are conveniently operated by a waterproof switch installed in the glove box. Also in the glove box area is the CTEK battery indicator which has a battery charging port for easy access to maintain battery levels while the ski is not in regular use.

My drogue sea anchor is stored just under the rear seat and normally out of the way, this is clipped onto the ski rope loop by a stainless steel caribbean clip, to reduce drift speed, only if required. My Cell phone is stored in a waterproof dry case specifically designed to withstand depths to 6 metres, (I hope I never need it that far down) and is usually attached via the lanyard to myself.
As you can see I have done just about all I can with the Yamaha to make my fishing experience comfortable and safe, I chose a Yamaha PWC as I like the solitude of the water after a busy week, I can launch and retrieve it by myself, use it for small game fishing and hunting snapper, kingfish etc. The beauty of my Yamaha is I can very quickly convert it to tow a wake board, water-skiers, or just go out and cruise or have fun wave jumping. It is versatile, very economical and fun as well as multi purpose. The whole family can enjoy your fishing platform. It comes into its own when fishing soft baits and white water, why spend hours getting to where you want to go by paddling a Kayak, when with a Yamaha you can get there first and be home with a feed of fish while the others are still thinking about the long journey ahead. Enjoy the Yamaha fishing experience as I have, with the easy life of jetskifishing.
